Large areas of glass in offices need to be clearly marked so people don't walk into them. Here's what that means in practice, and how to make it look good.
The short answer
Building Regulations guidance expects glazing in critical locations, such as glass partitions and doors, to be marked so it's clearly visible. Markings usually sit in two zones: one between 850mm and 1000mm, and one between 1400mm and 1600mm from the floor.
Making it look good
Manifestation doesn't have to be dots. Frosted bands, logos, patterns and graduated films all work, and can add privacy to meeting rooms at the same time.
Checking your building
Requirements can depend on the building and how the space is used. Your fire risk assessor or building control can confirm what applies.
Fitting
Manifestation film is fitted to the inside of the glass, usually in a day, with minimal disruption to the office.
