Yes, when it is done the right way. Here is what we wrap, what we leave alone and what to tell your fire risk assessor.
The short answer
Fire doors can be refurbished with architectural film, as long as the film is fire rated and nothing that makes the door a fire door is covered or changed.
Non-fire doors
Doors that are not fire doors can have their faces and edges wrapped. On a recent office job the fire doors were wrapped face only, while a plain oak office door was wrapped on the face and edges.
Before work starts
We confirm with you which doors are certified fire doors. We recommend you tell your fire risk assessor about the refurbishment so their records stay up to date.
The door faces
- Door faces only, in Euroclass B-s1, d0 film
- Film trimmed back on the edges
- Fire door signage put back on the wrapped face
Everything that makes it a fire door
- Intumescent strips and smoke seals
- The gaps around the leaf
- Closers, hinges, handles and vision panel beads, removed where needed and refitted as found
